For Families

Placing your child in a residential treatment center is an important decision, and we at Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare are honored to be your choice or have your consideration. Our goal is to provide clinical excellence in a collaborative environment to achieve the best possible outcome for your family member. Working together, we can make a lasting change in your child’s life.

To speak with parents of previous Liberty Point residents or receive more information, contact our admissions department at 800-496-7941, ext. 146.

Family Engagement

We value your input as a vital member of your child’s treatment team. From the referral process to discharge planning, we ask families to actively participate in their loved one’s treatment. Research suggests family engagement improves outcomes for children and families.

Liberty Point provides many opportunities for family involvement. Beyond weekly family therapy and monthly treatment team meetings, we encourage families to visit and join residents in educational, recreational and social activities both on and off campus. As part of the physical education program, our recreational therapist provides a robust calendar of activities and events for a variety of interests, functioning levels and treatment needs. Talent shows, community football and basketball leagues, volunteer and community services, hiking and other learning opportunities are packed into the weekly schedule. Family events are held on campus several times a year for residents to demonstrate their skills in art, craftsmanship, singing, acting, cooking and gardening.

Visitation & Local Attractions

Family can also participate in day and overnight passes. Staunton has a charming and vibrant downtown with many activities and events throughout the year. The area is home to numerous public parks, scenic drives, hiking trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains and historical and cultural sites like the American Shakespeare Center, Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Frontier Culture Museum. Our staff can help you find a secure and successful outing for your family.

In-person visitation and participation is always preferred and welcome. A local hotel offers a discounted rate for family members visiting Liberty Point. Videoconferencing is available for families that cannot visit due to schedule conflicts or geographically distant. This application can be accessed easily and securely from any smartphone or webcam. Ask your child’s case manager or psychotherapist how to access this important feature.
