We have a new school!!
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some
very exciting news happening at Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare
in Staunton, Virginia. As you know, Liberty Point Behavioral
provides intensive residential treatment, education and vocational
services to young men with cognitive, behavioral and emotional
disabilities ages thirteen to twenty two.
In order for Liberty Point to provide a twenty first century
educational and vocational experience, our organization felt it was
imperative to upgrade our physical plant facilities. In June of
2010, Liberty Point broke ground on a new, state of the art 10,000
square foot school building. This new facility will allow our
students to learn in spacious, well lit, properly ventilated
classrooms and vocational laboratories. Our new school building has
a total of four classrooms, two vocational laboratories (separate
outside horticulture greenhouse was also renovated simultaneously),
a library, mental health counselor’s offices and a conference room.
I am pleased to report that as of February 2011, construction was
completed on our new school building and we have received our
certificate of occupancy.
As we prepared to move into our new school building, we also
took the opportunity to revise our school improvement plan and
strengthen our academic and vocational curriculum. Our new school
program offers a revolutionary curriculum infused with career
exploration and vocational training benchmarks in each course
offered. This strategic decision ensures that career-ready learning
standards in reading, writing and mathematics will be taught in
every classroom and will assist our students in preparing for post
secondary education, independent living and employment.
Complimenting this curriculum focus is the opportunity for our
students to participate in one of our hands on vocational classes
including culinary arts, landscaping, horticulture, grounds
maintenance and automotive detailing. By offering real world work
experiences both on and off campus, students will master the skills
necessary to successfully transition into the world of work.
On behalf of the administration, staff and students, allow me to
extend an invitation to visit our new school and witness first hand
all of the new academic and vocational initiatives taking place
both on and off campus. Please feel free to contact me at
